Super Shrinking Violet

This week in Reading we read a poem called Shrinking Violet. The overarching themes of this poem were Anxiety, Change and Self Esteem. The author of the poem demonstrated these themes by creating a character who gradually loses her self esteem, becomes anxious and changes to become a shrinking violet.

For our Response to Text task we chose a stanza from the poem and inferred the meaning of it. We then expressed how the poem made us feel. After this we collaborated with a buddy to create a poem about regaining or growing self esteem along with an AI generated image to match the poem. Afterwards we recorded ourselves reading the poem. You can see and listen to our work below.

This activity taught me that It is okay to feel those type of emotions and you should always go to someone to talk about your feelings and that there is ways that you can rebuild It and make it stronger.

Special Sacraments

Kia Ora and welcome to my blog post for this week. Today in week 7 term 3 RE we have been looking at Sacraments over the past few weeks as we are in a Catholic school and it is compulsory to learn about it, the goals were Grow in understanding that the Catholic Church is the Catholic Community of God’s family into which we are especially welcomed by Baptism, Grow in understanding of what a sacrament is and what they do. Explore the seven Sacraments: what are they and how can they be part of my journey?

The teachers had made a slideshow in which we would get taught about each and every Sacrament which they are Baptism, First holy communion, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy orders and Anointing of the Sick. We learnt about these around every week of this term to lead up to a quiz that we have to take to see how much we have improved since our last quiz on this.

The past tasks have been to create a digital set of cards that matches the sacrament to its meaning and symbol, Draw as many of the symbols that are used in the 7 different Sacraments that you know and write a sentence about why you think they are symbolic, Assign roles: In groups of three – one student will be the priest, one will be the penitent and one will be the director, Write a fact file about this Saint including why they became a Saint who I choose St Gemma of Galgani and Write a prayer for the sick, lonely or less fortunate.

The task that we had to do today was fill in a sacrament task which we had to write which each one meant in our own words here it is down below and what do you know about a sacrament?

Perfect PBL

Kia Ora and welcome to my blog post for this week. Today in week 3 term 3 Pbl we have been looking at the olympics, for the past 2 weeks we have been looking at the different symbols and what each of these mean. The first thing that we did was think about What is the purpose behind these symbols? and Olympic medals symbolise the pinnacle of athletic achievement and inspire future generations. The Olympic torch represents the journey of unity and hope, connecting the ancient and modern Games. Olympic mascots embody the spirit of the host city and promote the Games to a global audience.

Our first task was to read one of the following articles which were either torches, medals or mascots and choose which you are most interested in. Skim and scan for information and be prepared to share your thoughts back to the class. After this we then had to Choose a mascot, torch, or medals from a past Olympics that interests you and make your own using  an AI generator of your choice design a mascot, medal, and torch that would be suitable for an Olympic Games held in New Zealand. Once you have created these three images head to MyMaps and create a route around New Zealand that hits all the best spots that the Olympic Torch should go.

For my Mascot I chose to do a kiwi then for the medal I chose to include mount cook because it is significant to Nz and lastly for my map I choose to go to the north and south island. Here is my creates down below and what would you choose for each of these?

Ridiculous Reading

Kia Ora and welcome to my blog post for this week. Today in week 1 term 3 Reading we have been learning about the Olympics. For Olympics reading we have been looking at the past and how the Olympics were formed and the meaning behind the Olympics, The first thing that we had to do was look at an image that has all the sports that were played in the past and write down 2-3 things you notice (key details, main ideas, themes) and then write down 2-3 things you wonder (questions you have because of the image, things you are curious about when you look at the image.) The things that I noticed about the picture was there are different sports that have been played, they games seem old and some of them we still play.

The next thing we had to do was read three texts which include the origins, Athletes and the sports on the programme then answer each of the questions that are in the texts on their own slides and also add in new vocabulary and put the key information of the texts on it too. The questions included What did the athletes wear at the ancient games? What was the criteria athletes had to meet to be allowed to compete? Why was it important for the athletes to take care of their skin?Select one of the famous Ancient Games athletes and describe their achievements and Write one fact that you found to be interesting.

The next slide question included was sports were either one day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4 or day 5. The ones that I found out were all the athletes, as well as the judges, took an oath to respect the rules, the winners would have to make announcements during the games, Equestrian, Pentathlon,  discus throw, long jump,  javelin, Young horses and mounted horse race, There were cows killed in honor of Zeus and other gods, Foot races, Boxing, wrestling and pankration and this day was reserved for honouring the victorious athletes. They were covered in ribbons and received victory palms in the stadium before a solemn ceremony in which they were crowned with olive wreaths.

The last thing we had to do was to fill in the five senses that we would feel at the games which the senses include smell, see, sounds, taste and feel here are all my slides for reading down below and what do you know about the Olympics?
